How to Join

 

Joining the JKRUK is open to Dojos, Instructors and Individuals. If you are interested we would recommend you first come and train with us. All our dojo’s welcome guests and all our seminars are open.

DOJO

If you run a dojo and wish to join the JKRUK, you will need to complete an affiliation application which can be obtained via the contact page on this website. A JKRUK dojo assessor will be appointed to you and will become your association mentor to help you on-board if your application is successful.

  • All JKRUK Dojos must have a head instructor ranked 3rd Dan or above in a recognised Okinawan or Japanese style. All grades and qualifications must be ratifiable.

  • We have a strict dojo policy on DBS, First Aid and general safety requirements that has to be adhered to.

  • A dojo must adopt and have instructors capable of teaching our syllabus.

  • ALL Dojo-Cho (heads) and Instructor must agree to and sign our Code of Conduct.

  • All Dojos are subject to an initial 12-month trial membership if their affiliation is accepted. Once the probationary period is completed successfully the dojo will be invited to renew its annual affiliation.

  • JKRUK has the right to refuse memberships of a DOJO without further communication.

 

INSTRUCTOR

You must join a JKRUK dojo and be a regular training member.

  • An Instructor must agree to and sign our Code of Conduct.

  • A current DBS check must be provided.

  • You must attend the regular Instructor, Brown and Blackbelt classes.

  • Grades below 3rd Dan cannot run a JKRUK dojo, but they can teach under the supervision of a nominated association mentor.

  • JKRUK has the right to refuse memberships of an Instructor without further communication.

 

INDIVIDUAL MEMBER

You must join a JKRUK dojo and be a regular training member.

  • Most, but not all JKRUK dojos operate classes for all age groups. When you are considering affiliation for children the JKRUK will advise which Dojo maybe best for you.

  • Most JKRUK dojos offer some form of enrolment scheme, so you can attend a few classes to see if you will enjoy it before you are asked to obtain a JKRUK licence.

  • All members will be expected to obtain a JKRUK licence which also cover’s your member to member insurance.

  • You will need to obtain a dogi (training uniform) and association Mon (Badge) patch. These can be obtained from the Dojo secretary.

  • The JKRUK Licence is also your ranking record, it remains the property of the JKR and must be surrendered to a JKR official on request.

  •  JKRUK has the right to refuse memberships of an individual without further communication.
